Start with your home, not a product

I rent / I can't modify plumbing

Countertop systems need no landlord permission and leave with you when you move. Gravity, faucet-connect and plug-in RO all qualify.

I own my home

Treat water where it enters and every tap, shower and appliance benefits. Whole-house systems run from about $420 in cartridges to $2,099 for a certified PFAS tank - and dealer-installed quotes average $1,100-$3,500 (Angi).

I have a well

The EPA doesn't regulate private wells - testing and treatment are on you. Start with a real water test, then build treatment around the results.

Already love your water - just bored of it?

Clean is the starting point, not the finish line. Fizz it, flavor it, load it with electrolytes: our guide to flavor packets, sparkling-water makers and infusion gear - the fun layer that goes on top of filtered water, never instead of it.

The 60-second certification lesson

Most filter marketing blurs three very different things. Certified to NSF/ANSI 53 means an accredited body verified the claim. Tested to a standard means a lab ran the protocol - useful, weaker. Meets standards with no named standard means... very little. Every product on this site carries one of these badges, and we never upgrade the wording.
